Emerging Issues in Sustainable Forest Management: Experiences and Lessons for Nigeria

Venue: Cooperative Hall, Ministry of Agriculture Complex, Old Abeokuta Road, Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Date: March 12 -16, 2018.

Arrival: Sunday March 11, 2018.

Students reg. fee: N5,000 (Payable at the Conference venue).

Activities for Students’ participation

Students are encouraged to attend the conference in mass. We plea that Forestry Departments should kindly assist/support their students as much as possible to attend this 40th Annual Conference of Forestry Association of Nigeria.

The following are the planned involvement of students during this conference.

  1. Students Special Symposium and AGM.
  2. Essay writing contest
  3. Poetry Writing and Singing
  4. Social Media volunteering
  5. Registration desk volunteering

 

  1. Students Special Symposium and Annual General Meeting

Topic: The Challenges and Prospect of 21st Century Forestry Students in Nigeria

Date: Tuesday 13 March, 2018.

Time: 12noon to 3pm

Speakers

Dr. Folaranmi Babalola: Lecturer and Head of Department, Forest Resources Management, University of Ilorin, Ilorin. He is the President of Nigeria Chapter for Society for Conservation Biology (NSCB) and the Chief Executive Officer of Save Sahara Network, an NGO with the vision of saving nature and empowering people at grassroots.

Mr. John Agbo Ogbodo: Lecturer in the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. He is the founder and CEO of Sustainable TransEnvironment International Foundation – A PAN Africa organization aimed at greening the environment and empowerment of rural women and youth.

Dr. Adepoju O. R.: Former Provost of Federal College of Forestry, Jos and currently serves as the Executive Director of Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Jericho, Ibadan.

Mr. Olupitan Kayode: Forestry and Wood Technology graduate from Federal University of Technology, Akure. He is a regional representative of International Forestry Students Association for the Northern African Region.

Moderator

Mr. Alex B. Onatunji, the pioneer Vice-president of University of Ilorin Forestry Students Association. He is the pioneer and current President of Forestry Students Association of Nigeria.

Note: The symposium would be followed by the Annual General Meeting of FSAN.

2. Essay writing contest

Title: My Dream for Sustainable Forest Management in Nigeria

Submission format: Students are to write a 450 words essay and submit via email to fsannigeria@gmail.com.

Submissions should include Full Name, Matric Number, Department, Name of School, Phone Number and functional Email Address.

Deadline: Tuesday March 6, 2018.

Prize: Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position would be announced during the conference.

 

3. Poetry Writing and Singing

Submission format: Students are to write a Poetry on any environmental issues and submit via email to fsannigeria@gmail.com

Submissions should include Full Name, Matric Number, Department, Name of School, Phone Number and functional Email Address.

Deadline: Tuesday March 6, 2018.

Prize: Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position would be announced during the conference and may be given a privilege to deliver during the event.

 

4. Social Media and Registration desk volunteering

Social Media: Three students would be competitively selected to serve as volunteer for live conference coverage on the social media such as twitter, Facebook and FSAN Blog. Another student will be selected to take photograph of the events for publicity.

 Registration desk: Three students would be selected serve as volunteer and assist with registration of participants at the events.

 Application format: Students are to write to indicate interest via email to fsannigeria@gmail.com

Submissions should include Full Name, Matric Number, Department, Name of School, Phone Number and Working Email Address.

Prize: Certificate of service at EKO 2018.

 

Important notice

FSAN is currently negotiating for sponsorship of all the students selected as volunteer at the conference. However, we want to suggest that all students should seek other forms of sponsorship to cover their transportation and accommodation at the conference.

To get cheap hotels: Search for “Hotels in Agege, Lagos” on your mobile phone Google Map to get cheap accommodation and possibly book online.
